The world’s most successful startup, and a business model which has changed the way we travel, Uber has become one of the most frequently used apps of recent times nowadays. Users of the app were greeted with a surprise this morning, as the familiar old black-and-white logo with the U was gone, and a new circular logo has been introduced. The comapny is calling the square in the center of the circle as a ‘bit’.
An official press release has been issued regarding this change, where the CEO of Uber, Travis Kalanick himself has given statements, saying that this change “celebrates our technology, as well as the cities we serve,” and gets rid of the stark black-on-white appearance in favor of muted colors that vary depending on region.
“The team has spent months researching architecture, textiles, scenery, art, fashion, people and more to come up with authentic identities for the countries where Uber operates,” Kalanick says.
Uber’s website, too has gone through many changes, and it now shows customized colours and new patterns. These patterns have been drawn from a collection of architecture, textiles, scenery, art, fashion, people, giving each and every of the 68 countries that Uber operates in, an individual identity on the website.
Uber has introduced a new typeface, and the good old U with the curls has seen a few changes as well, as the curls have gone from the U, and it is now a simpler version of the same. According to the company this enhances readability as well as eases recognition. According to Kalanick, the company not only moves people, but also food and goods. This new logo for the riders as well as the drivers is a result of a broader thinking in towards the design.
As of this moment, we can say that ‘the bit’ is something we need to watch out for, as that looks like what is going to propel the company forward over time.
