“Doctor, I feel tired all the time.” This is not an uncommon phrase in the field of medicine as most patients always complain of feeling tired. This is found everywhere, in the work place, as people work, they feel tired after they’ve put in some hours of work, while some others are too tired at the start of the day to do anything meaningful. This is not a medical condition, but it can be reversed through a change of lifestyle.

What is tiredness? This is sometimes used interchangeably with fatigue and it is a state which can be characterized by reduced or no energy, lack of motivation and mental or physical exhaustion. This can be caused by a number of factors, let’s look at a few of them.

Causes of Tiredness

  • Insufficient Sleep

Every system needs to rest, and sleep is rest for the human body. Insufficient sleep is a primary cause of tiredness. Everyone is expected to have at least 6 hours of sleep daily, this is necessary so all organs in the body can relax. Some persons are in the habit of watching television in hopes that they fall asleep as they watch their favorite program, this is a wrong practice. When you want to sleep, turn off the television, computer and cellular phone. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and heavy meals, turn off the lights and sleep.

  • Wrong Food

What you eat influences your levels of tiredness. Go for a balanced diet containing all vitamins and minerals. Vegetables, fruits and whole meal should be eaten in adequate quantity. Do not go for sugar and caffeine as this would upset the body system, resulting in tiredness.

  • Bad Eating Pattern

Some persons have developed the habit of eating at irregular intervals, this is unhealthy. Meals should be eaten regularly and at preset intervals. You do not wake up at 2am in the morning and eat heavy then return to bed. This is not healthy for the body and leads to tiredness.

  • Lack of Exercise

There is no doubting the fact that there are lots of benefits associated with daily exercise. On the flip side, lack of exercise leads to tiredness. When you exercise, you invigorate your body, leading to excellent blood circulation. This is like warming the car in snow, it keeps it alive. But if left not warmed, the fluids freeze, making it difficult to start.

There are other medical conditions that could result in tiredness. Here are some of them:

  • Anemia

This is a very common cause of tiredness and fatigue. If you have taking steps to change your way of living with no improvements, please go for medical test to ensure you are not suffering from this ailment.

  • Sleeping Apnea

When your throat narrows or closes when you sleep, interrupting your breadth, this leads to snoring and it is bad. The supply of oxygen to your blood is reduced, when you wake up, you’ll feel tired as a result of the difficulty you experienced while breathing. This is mostly common in middle aged men and men who take alcohol and smoking problems.

Other medical causes of tiredness are diabetes, Glandular fever, depression, restless legs and anxiety
