Planned Parenthood in the United States has reportedly witnessed a significant increase in donations ever since the President-elect Donald Trump won the 2016 elections, according to The Guardian report.

The report stated that Planned Parenthood has received donations more than “40 times” its normal rate, amounting to more than 300,000 donations ever since November 8, 2016.

Republican billionaire Donald Trump has made various conflicting statements on abortion during his election campaign, however, the Vice President-elect Mike Pence has always remained anti-abortion and pro-life.

The Vice President-elect has also said that he does not want Toe V. Wade and wants to send it to “the ash heap of history.”

Pro-choice activists and supporters of Planned Parenthood had previously launched a social media campaign in the name of Mike Pence to urge people to donate to the nation’s largest abortion provider as a sign of protest against Pence’s pro-life stance on abortion.

A spokesperson for the women’s health organisation said that people have been giving more donations, amounting to 40 times the normal rate, to the organisation ever since it was decided that Donald Trump would become the next president of the United States, The Guardian reported.

The spokesperson also said that about half of the donations came from millennials and records stated that about 70 percent of these millennials had never donated to the Planned Parenthood before the 2016 US elections.

Reports state that one of the reasons of such high number of donations to the organisation is because of the fear that Trump’s administration might take away all the abortion rights and in such a time Planned Parenthood will be all they have. Trump during his campaign had said that he would appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe V. Wade.

Even Pence has signed up some of the most stringent restrictions on abortions into law when he was the governor of Indiana. Reports state that out of all the donations, around 82,000 have been made under Pence’s name since the election.
