A recent study conducted by researchers at KIIT University in India has shed some light on the kind of food and diet which could assist patients battling arthritis .
A team of researchers from the university came up with a list of foods which could help arthiritis patient combat the symptoms of the disease like joint inflammation and pain. The researchers, during the study, reveiwed several studies and experiments conducted in laboratories under different circumstances.
According to the researchers, foods like ginger, blueberries, olive oil and green tea are a few superfoods which can help patients fight rheumatoid arthritis.
The study explained that such superfoods help in reducing joint stiffness and pain by lowering inflammatory chemicals released by the immune system called cytokines. There foods are also known for lowering oxidative stress which is the body’s ability to fight and nullify harmful chemicals.
The research team also advises arithirits patients to consume probiotic food products on a daily basis and curb the consumption of alcohol and tobacco. The researchers said that probiotics help in reducing the progression of the disease.
Arthiritis causes inflammation of one or more joints in the body, resulting in pain, stiffness and swelling. The disease can severely impact the quality of life of a person and there is currently no available cure for it, however its symptoms can be managed to a certain extents by adapting positive changes in one’s lifestyle and diet.
The author of the study, Bhawna Gupta, also advised the patients to eat lots of dietary fibres, vegetables, fruits and spices and avoid foods that can known to cause inflammation. She added that certain diet plans like the Mediterranean diet or 7 to 10 fast diet can also assist the patients.
The researchers through their study evaluated the dietary interventions and specific foods which have shown long-term effects.
