Half Life 3 has been among some of the most awaited names when it comes to the world of gaming, and there have been many people who have been awaiting the release of this game rather eagerly. Valve, on their part have never made any announcements confirming or denying the release of this game, but the theories surrounding the release of Half Life 3 are too damn high. There have been many who have been indicating that the game will come out, but as of now, it looks like the ones who have been saying that it might never come out might be right. Here’s Why:
- Marc Laidlaw’s Departure
One of the biggest reasons that the Half Life 3 Game might not come out is because of the departure of the man who was the story-writer as well as the creative director behind these games, who not only gave a sense of purpose and direction to the series, but also added life to the characters. With Marc Laidlaw having left Valve, there is a major void in the company as he was, for the last sixteen years, a mainstay for the company.
- Lack of Interest by Valve
A general lack of interest has been noted on Valve’s part too, as CEO Gabe Newell had the following to say:
“The only reason we’d go back and do like a super classic kind of product is if a whole bunch of people just internally at Valve said they wanted to do it and had a reasonable explanation for why.
But you know if you want to do another Half-Life game and you want to ignore everything we’ve learned in shipping Portal 2 and in shipping all the updates on the multiplayer side, that seems like a bad choice. So we’ll keep moving forward. But that doesn’t necessarily always mean what people are worried that it might mean.”
- JJ Abrams Possibly Making a Movie
During an interview with IGN, Abrams was asked about the Half Life 3 and the Portal movies, to which he had said – “They’re in development, and we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories. But nothing that would be an exciting update. We’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories.”
