One of the biggest names in the world of technology, Samsung has been coming out with some of the biggest updates and upgrades in the markets over the recent few years. The company has been coming out with a large number of devices at a very frequent pace. This has been their strategy which has worked for them very well. The company also has another special thing about them – dual flagships. Samsung Galaxy S series of smartphones devices, and the Samsung Galaxy Note series of phablets. The last variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note that came out was that of the Note 5. However, the markets have indicated that the gen-next Note device would not be Note 6, but Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
This would actually be a good move, which would help affect the company in terms or brand recognition and sales. There are two major reasons here – while the Samsung Galaxy S7 has come out earlier this year, this move of skipping a number would bring the Note 7 and the S7 at par.
Additionally, the iPhone 7 is coming out later this year, and ‘7’ would become a key number in the markets. Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus , and… Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
This move does make sense from a branding point of view, and the brand recall would be higher. The common psyche of the users is, that if a device is numbered ‘6’ in times where many premium devices are named ‘7’, the device numbered 6 might be inferior.
Hence, it is a smart move by Samsung to skip a number and brand the gen-next Samsung Galaxy Note as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6. This theory is further backed by a leaked promo photo which shows ‘7’ written on it.
