The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Food and Drug Administration initiated an investigation into a massive recall of frozen fruits and vegetables across the states due to listeria concerns.

A Washington-based company, CRF Frozen Foods, earlier this week had issued a massive recall of frozen vegetables and fruits that ere processed from its plants in Pasco, Washington since May1 2014. The firms recalled around 358 different products under 42 varied brand names.

According to the FDA, around eight people from three different states became infected with strains of listeia after consuming the products. Those infected were from Washington, Maryland and California and their ages ranged from 56 to 88.

FDA said that their illness was confirmed to be associated with the CRF Frozen Foods’ contaminated products. Two of these people succumbed to the infection, ever since the incident that firm’s particular facility has been closed.

According to a press release, the FDA also collected samples from the Oregon Potato Company in Pasco in March and found out that there was a genetic connection to the listeria found in all the seven infected people and the one found at the facility. After the detection, the Oregon Potato Company also recalled its wholesale onion products and others companies who use these products also issued a separate recall.

The FDA news release further stated, “This is a complex and ongoing investigation, and updates will be communicated as they become available.” According to the CDC website, listerosis is a serious infection that is caused after consuming certain contaminated raw food or vegetables who have the microscopic Listeria monocytogenes organisms in them.

If you want to whether you have purchased the products which have been ordered for recall, you can visit the FDA official website as the products on recall are listed there. The authorities said that if the consumers have purchased the products, they are either advised to return them for a refund or throw them away.
