Facebook has been a company which has been known for being a revolutionary force in the markets of technology. The company entered into a market which was soon expected to saturate and took the game to a whole new level. Social Media will never be the same again, thanks to Facebook’s innovations and improvisations. The company has changed the way we perceive social media to be, and has taken it from networking to advertising! Like a true game-changer, the company has brought around major changes, and has off late been busy in keeping its platform clean. Earlier we saw Facebook ban ads that sold guns, and now, the company has banned pages that sell medical marijuana.
The topic of legalization of marijuana has been a highly debatable one not just in the US, but across the planet. It has been becoming a rising concern with groups ‘for’ and ‘against’ it expressing their concerns in a major manner. However, while Facebook has never openly taken any stance, the company has now started banning pages that sell medical marijuana.
Various occurrences of Facebook banning such pages in New Jersey, an area where marijuana itself has been legalized have been found. While the company might have had the best intentions in mind, they are being met with criticism and backlash by a large number of users.
“It seems high-handed to simply shut down important resources for sick patients without even saying why or giving organisations a way to ask for reconsideration,” Digital Trends quoted Peter Rosenfeld, one of the 5,668 registered patients for medical marijuana programme in New Jersey, as saying on Friday.
Though this partially violates the Facebook community standards, which prevent the sale of drugs, the company has nothing in particular about those authorized drug vendors and dispensaries which sell medical marijuana.
